Miller strikes gold
GARY MILLER of TAMPA in December won a gold medal at 800 meters and a silver at 1,500 meters at the Florida Senior Games in Clearwater. This was the sixth consecutive year Miller was the top Floridian in his age group at 800 meters. He also ran a time that met the Masters All American standard for his age (65). His 1,500 meters time also qualified him as a Masters All American at that distance. Miller has participated in masters track and field since 2004 and has accumulated 25 medals at the annual Florida state championships in the middle distances. Miller will now represent Florida in the National Senior Games this summer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as he did in 2009 (Palo Alto, California) and 2013 (Cleveland), reaching the finals on three occasions. “I do it, among other reasons, because I enjoy the competition, it’s good for my physical and mental well being and there are important life lessons that flow from participating in sports,” Miller said.
