The Florida Bar recently updated the MyFloridaBar Member Portal on the Bar’s website making it easier to find meetings, CLE courses and products, join a section, and register for events.

Members may also now record an alternate first name to use in the Find-a-Lawyer search feature on FloridaBar.org.

Jennifer Krell Davis, the Bar’s deputy director of communications, said the Bar is continuously working to streamline, simplify, and “just generally make transactions with the Bar easier and more intuitive.”

• Improved navigation;

• A dedicated “My Meetings” page where members can locate section and other Bar meetings;

• A new, integrated search for CLE courses and products;

• A dedicated “Sections” page where members may join sections and review their current memberships;

• An updated and improved event registration experience; and

• A new alternate first-name profile option.

“These changes provide better organization within the Member Portal to make navigation easier and improve the user’s experience,” Davis said. “These changes really make it easier for lawyers to find the things they need.”

Sections

The new Sections page displays a list of the member’s current sections and provides the opportunity to purchase additional section memberships.

My Meetings

Previously, meetings were listed with other live, in-person events such as CLE courses. Now, meetings are listed separately on the My Meetings page, so members save time finding the meeting they need.

CLE Course and Product Search

The redesigned CLE course and product search makes it possible to fine-tune searches by:

• Skill level;

• Keyword;

• Credit type;

• Board certification area; and

• Sponsoring section.

“Search results are organized so you can quickly find the format you want: live courses, CD/DVD, or course materials,” Davis said.

Enhancements were also made to the event interface making it “easier and simpler” to register for Bar events, including:

• Simplified selection of tickets and activities for each attendee;

• Easier to read forms to capture dietary or other preferences;

• A new order summary displays throughout the registration process; and

• Items can easily be removed from the cart at any time.

“These changes primarily impact events where registration is completed within the Member Portal, including live in-person CLE course events and section meetings,” said Davis, adding registration for phone events or webinars offered via InReach are not impacted in this release. “Members will continue to register for those events via InReach.”

Members will continue to log in to the Member Portal, select an event, and follow the registration instructions provided. Detailed registration instructions may also be downloaded from the Member Portal.

‘Alternate First Name’ Feature

Davis said members who go by an alternate first name or nickname may now be more easily found on FloridaBar.org as a new feature provides the ability to record an alternate professional first name in your profile.

“When you record an alternate first name, consumers can find you by searching your legal name — as recorded in your membership record — or your alternate first name,” Davis said. “For example, Elizabeth Watson goes by ‘Betty.’ When she records ‘Betty’ as her alternate first name, consumers can find her by using the search terms ‘Betty Watson’ or ‘Elizabeth Watson.’”

All members will still be listed by their official Bar name and that is how the name will appear in the search results. Members are cautioned that taglines, marketing/promotional, profane, or inappropriate language will be removed.
