R. Lawrence “Larry” Heinkel has been elected chair of Cure on Wheels, Inc., which conducts a bicycle ride in May to raise funds for cancer research.

Manuel L. Dobrinsky of Freidin • Dobrinsky in Miami was sworn in as president of the Miami-Dade Justice Association.

Michelle M. Gallardo, with Ford Motor Company, was appointed by the president of the ABA to leadership positions on the Council for the Fund for Justice and Education and the Presidential Advisory Council on Diversity in the Profession.

Christian Petersen of Gunster in Ft. Lauderdale has been named volunteer of the year by the YMCA of Broward County.

Danialle Riggins of Riggins Law Firm in Ocala spoke on “How to Avoid Being Sued by Your Employees” to Tri County Health Alliance in Chiefland.

Gary A. Forster of Pohl & Short spoke to the Central Florida financial representatives of MetLife in Orlando on the topic of asset protection in Florida.

Barry Nelson of Nelson & Nelson spoke at the ACTEC Summer Meeting; the 34th Annual Notre Dame Tax and Estate Planning Institute; and the FICPA Florida Institute on Federal Taxation Conference in 2008, and participated in the Time-Lapse Vision Initiative Retreat for the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Keith W. Bricklemyer of Bricklemyer Smolker & Bolves was a faculty member at the November Florida Wetlands Conference sponsored by CLE International. He spoke on legal issues related to “Local Government Wetland Regulations.”

Susan L. Trevarthen and Nancy M. Stuparich of Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske in Ft. Lauderale spoke at a seminar titled “A Planner’s Guide to Law and Ethics” held at Florida Atlantic University’s Downtown Ft. Lauderdale Campus. Trevarthen presented “A Planner’s Guide to Successfully Regulating First Amendment-related Land Uses” and Stuparich presented “Sustaining Our Community Without Compromising Our Ethics.”

Ephraim Roy Hess of Ft. Lauderdale has been appointed by Gov. Crist to the State of Florida Diabetes Advisory Council.

Eduardo Suarez-Solar of Integrated Employer Resources and of counsel with Harper Gerlach in Tampa spoke at the Southwest Florida Utility Contractors Association-Naples on “Current Labor and Employment Issues.” He also presented “Developing HR Measurables” to the 2008 HR Florida State Conference and Expo in Orlando.

Edith Osman of Carlton Fields in Miami has been appointed to the Commonwealth Institute’s South Florida Board of Advisors.

Patricia H. Thompson of Carlton Fields in Miami was recognized by the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center for her pro bono work for and in support of FIAC.

Gregory C. Yadley of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Tampa co-chaired the 27th Annual Institute on Federal Securities in Miami.

Peggy S. Bush of Cabaniss, Smith, Toole & Wiggins in Orlando was appointed to the DRI Food Liability Specialized Litigation Group of the Product Liability Committee.

Larry D. Smith of Cabaniss, Smith, Toole & Wiggins in Orlando will co-chair the Diversity Subcommittee of the ABA’s Ethics and Professionalism Committee.

Judge Charles Kahn of the First District Court of Appeal recently made a presentation at the Records Seminar of the Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptrollers in Sandestin on the topic of Management of Judicial Branch Records. Judge Kahn chairs the Supreme Court’s Judicial Branch Records Management Committee.

Alvin Lindsay and Brian Lerner of Hogan & Hartson in Miami wrote the Florida chapter of Business Torts: A Fifty-State Guide 2009 Edition recently published by Aspen.

Dustin D.P. Delaney of Clarke Gittens Farmer in Barbados received a certificate in anti-money laundering and counter financial terrorism after participation in the Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Conference and Risk Assessment Workshop presented by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force and the Central Bank of Barbados.

John M. Kamins with Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn was recently elected secretary and council member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Arts, Communications, Entertainment & Sports Section.

Jack Bovay of Bovay & Cook in Gainesville presented “The State of Estate Planning” to the North Central Florida Estate Planning Council at its January meeting.

Larry D. Smith of Cabaniss, Smith, Toole & Wiggins has been appointed to the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Diversity Committee.

Quentin E. Morgan, associate with the Ft. Lauderdale firm of Brinkley, Morgan, Solomon, Tatum, Stanley & Lunny, has been re-elected chairman of the Broward County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.

Alvin Lindsay and Kristen Foslid, with Hogan and Hartson in Miami, each wrote chapters of a newly published book titled Trade Secrets and Agreements Not to Compete: A State-by-State Compendium. The two also authored the Florida chapter of the forthcoming 2009 edition of the Products Liability Desk Reference, published by Aspen.

Amy D. Ronner, professor at St. Thomas University School of Law, has published an article, “The Learned-Helpless Lawyer: Clinical Legal Education and Therapeutic Jurisprudence as Antidotes to Bartleby Syndrome,” in Touro Law Review. She will present this paper at the 2009 International Association of Law and Mental Health Conference in New York.

Glenn E. Thomas and James W. Linn, of Lewis, Longman, & Walker presented “Joining FRS and Other Strategies for Containing Pension Costs” at the Florida Public Employer Labor Relations Association Annual Meeting.
