Ivan Parron of Parron Law debated “The future of the NCAA — Name, Image & Likeness” with Florida House Rep. Chip Lamarca, sponsor of Florida’s “Student Athlete Achievement Act” bill, at Florida International University College of Law.

Jason E. Handin of Ward Damon in West Palm Beach has been selected as a fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America and appointed to the board of directors for the Florida Home Builders Association.

Melba Pearson of MVP Law in Miami presented on eradicating gender based violence to South African prosecutors and police in Johannesburg, South Africa. Pearson also received an award from the Miami Dade School Board for two decades of advocacy in the community.

Janice L. Merrill and Chanel A. Mosley of Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin in Orlando presented the webinar “Risky Business: Transitions of care and avoidable hospital admissions and readmissions,” hosted by the Florida Society for Healthcare Risk Management and Patient Safety.

Vincent Citro published “The Jencks Act and Rule 26.2: Effectively Using Discovery Tools during Hearings and Trials to Increase the Likelihood of Prevailing in Hearings and Trials or on Appeal,” in the November/December 2019 issue of The Federal Lawyer.

Janet Goldberg McEnery of Stearns Weaver Miller presented “EEOC Mediation: Your Game Changer!” at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission mediation program.

Hale E. Sheppard of Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry in Atlanta had his article, “IRS Introduces Relief Procedures for Former U.S. Citizens: Path to Avoid the Exit Tax, Income Taxes, and Penalties Despite Past Non-Compliance,” published in the International Tax Journal.

Peter T. McCary, staff attorney for tax litigation at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel in Jacksonville, graduated from the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course.

John Gihon of Shorstein, Lasnetski and Gihon in Orlando appeared as the discussion leader for the “Advanced Crimmigration” panel at the American Immigration Lawyers Association Central Florida Chapter, Annual Conference in St. Petersburg Beach. He also organized and coordinated a removal defense skills practical workshop at the conference.

Brian D. Burgoon of the Burgoon Law Firm in Atlanta received the Myra Morgan Outstanding Mentorship Award from Florida Blue Key President Jacob Duval.

Richard D. West of West Family Law Group in Orlando has been named a diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers.

Rebecca A. Rodriguez of GrayRobinson in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami has been appointed to the board of directors of Legal Aid Service of Broward County.
