PEC sets its agenda
It will examine a number of Bar programs and activities

The Program Evaluation Committee will be undertaking the review of numerous Bar committees and programs during the coming year as well as looking at a new program request that would create a diversion option for disruptive and unruly lawyers.

Wayne Helsby Committee Chair Wayne Helsby reported to the Board of Governors recently on the committee’s expected activities for the 2018-19 Bar year. The committee is charged with reviewing existing Bar activities and new proposed programs.

Entities and activities scheduled for review in the coming months, Helsby said, include the Council of Sections, the Section Leadership Conference, Florida Lawyers Assistance, Inc. (which is an ongoing review), the Military Affairs Committee, the Standing Committee on Technology (there is also a board-level committee), and various Bar committee awards.

The committee also plans to examine various Bar civic legal education initiatives, such as the Benchmarks program run by the Constitutional Judiciary Committee.

In addition, the committee will look at a proposed Bar diversion program for disruptive and unruly lawyers, whose conduct may be offensive and impede court proceedings, but falls short of action through the Bar’s grievance committee.
