The Florida Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization & Education recognized Plata Schott Law of Jacksonville at the Annual Florida Bar Convention for promoting board certification.

The award recognizes excellence and creativity by a Florida Bar board certified lawyer in advancing the public’s knowledge of, and reputation for, legal board certification.

Belkis Plata and Shannon Schott started their careers at the Office of the Public Defender. In 2014, they launched Plata Schott Law and quickly grew into a “powerful” small law firm practicing criminal defense, juvenile law and personal injury. In 2016, the late Rob Mason, their former PD supervisor let them know that juvenile law would officially become an area of certification and encouraged them to apply. Both became board certified specialists in juvenile law.

As private practitioners, Belkis and Shannon wove the term “expert” into all of their legal marketing. Active on social media, they have produced content on a variety of platforms including their own website and blog, YouTube, Instagram, and even TikTok explaining to the public the importance of hiring a board certified specialist. They are regularly featured on their local news stations in Northwest Florida as legal commentators and experts in cases related to juveniles including State v. Aiden Fucci — a high-profile case in St. Johns County.

“Belkis and Shannon’s core values include empowerment,” according to the BLSE. “By using media and social media to educate, they are empowering consumers to make better decisions about their own legal representation. To date — their messaging as reached more than 300k views.”
