Privacy expert to lead Bar US Private Sector Privacy Training in Orlando

The Cybersecurity & Privacy Law Committee is sponsoring an intensive, two-day training seminar to help Florida lawyers become internationally certified in data privacy.

Bob Siegel, president and founder of Privacy Ref, is set to lead the in-person “US Private Sector Privacy Training (IAPP)” on June 17-18 at the Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek two days before the Bar convenes its Annual Convention there on June 19.

The comprehensive U.S. Private-Sector Privacy CIPP/US program promises an overview of data protection laws and regulations in the U.S and an understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to/from the U.S., the EU and other jurisdictions. The U.S. Private-Sector Privacy CIPP/US program was the first professional certification ever to be offered in information privacy. The CIPP/US credential demonstrates a strong foundation in U.S. privacy laws and regulations. The U.S. Private-Sector Privacy CIPP/US program was the first professional certification ever to be offered in information privacy.

Siegel is one of the subject matter experts who provided guidance to the development of this course and has trained more than 12,000 students. Siegel holds the title “Fellow of Information Privacy” conferred by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He is also a certified information privacy professional with endorsements for U.S. Private and Public Law (CIPP/US, CIPP/G), European Law (CIPP/E), Canadian Law (CIPP/C), IT Practices (CIPT), and Privacy Program Management (CIPM).

“With deep subject matter knowledge surrounding key laws and regulations regarding consumer privacy and information security, he has actively contributed to the field,” according to the committee. “Bob has served as a member of the IAPP Certification Advisory Board for its publications and has been a member of their training faculty. His contributions include helping create the IAPP’s US Private Sector, Privacy Program Management, and European Data Protection classes as a subject matter expert.”

Each participant will be provided with:

  • Two full days of training
  • A participant guide containing sample exam questions (both hardcopy and electronic versions)
  • A voucher to take the certification exam ($550 value)
  • A hardcopy and an electronic version of the textbook
  • A one-year IAPP membership with the option for a first-class or bundle membership provided by Privacy Ref ($275 value applied to renewal for current IAPP members)
  • A voucher for certification study groups
  • A free refresher course in the case of a student failing the IAPP exam, provided the exam has been taken within three months of completing the class.

The program (Course No. 8305 • Intermediate Level) is approved for 17 hours of general CLE credits and 17 hours of international law certification credits. Course registration costs $1,800 and is not affiliated with Florida Bar convention registration.
