The Standing Committee on Advertising will consider adopting Proposed Advisory Opinion A-14-1 on the issue of lawyers’ participation in the social networking site LinkedIn, including LinkedIn’s endorsements feature, as a topic of interest among a significant number of Florida Bar members at the request of The Florida Bar Board of Governors. The committee will consider this issue at a meeting to be held in conjunction with The Florida Bar Winter Meeting, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014. There is no draft opinion available at this time. The Standing Committee on Advertising’s existing Guidelines on Social Networking Sites are available on the bar’s website at www.floridabar.org under “Advertising Rules.” Pursuant to Procedures 4(c) and (d) of The Florida Bar Procedures for Issuing Advisory Opinions Relating to Lawyer Advertising or Solicitation, comments from Florida Bar members are solicited on the issues presented. All comments to the Standing Committee on Advertising must contain the draft proposed advisory opinion number and clearly state the issues that the bar member believes should be addressed by the committee’s opinion and may contain citations to relevant authorities. Comments should be submitted to Elizabeth Clark Tarbert, Ethics Counsel, The Florida Bar, 651 E. Jefferson Street, Tallahassee 32399-2300, and must be postmarked no later than 30 days from the date of this publication.
