Jennifer Kuyrkendall GriffinThe Solo & Small Firm Section has renewed its popular “Wednesday Wisdom” CLE series for the 2020-21 Florida Bar year and has confirmed presenters through December.

The series provides free, monthly webinars on Zoom as a section member benefit. The 2018-2019 section chair, General Magistrate Jennifer Kuyrkendall Griffin, created the series to meet the needs of solos and small firms and to adapt to the changing landscape of available CLE offerings. In a 2019 Florida Bar Journal feature article, Griffin said the Wednesday Wisdom CLE series is “another example of how the section evolves to meet membership needs.”

Linda Calvert-HansonAccording to Solo & Small Firm Section CLE Committee Chair Linda Calvert-Hanson, a former director of the Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism, the free Wednesday Wisdom webinars total a $500 value for section members. Hanson said the fall Wednesday Wisdom lineup is a mix of practice management, technology, and substantive law.

“We’re striving to give our section members information and skills that they can incorporate into their practices immediately,” said Hanson. “Our combination of live webinars and videos available 24/7 through the section’s members-only Facebook group allows access to a wide variety of CLE topics when it’s convenient for our members’ schedules.”

In addition, Hanson said the Wednesday Wisdom series also provides the section with the ability to offer “pop-up” webinars in response to current events. In March, the section offered “COVID & Managing your Firm During Uncertain Times,” and in July, “Achieving Equality: A Pathway for All.”

The section’s fall Wednesday Wisdom series includes “Retirement Plans for Law Firms: What’s the Best Option?” by Mike Stewart of Wells Fargo; “Why Would Anyone Hack ME? Cybersecurity in the Time of Covid-19 for the Solo and Small Firm Practitioner” by Margaret “Peggy” Hewitt of FLMIC, Bryan Barnhart of Infiltration Labs, and General Magistrate Jennifer Kuyrkendall Griffin; “Essentials of Sovereign Immunity Litigation under §768.28” by Lee E. “Pete” Muschott; and “Make Money While You Sleep: Get Your Side Hustle On” by Joshua Hertz and Paula Black.
