Speaker Paul Renner releases committee assignments

Speaker Paul Renner
Florida House Speaker Paul Renner on Friday announced committee assignments ahead of the 60-day regular session that convenes in January.
Renner, a Palm Coast attorney, also announced that he has formed two select committees.
“Pursuant to Rule 7.6, I am creating the Select Committee on Hurricane Resiliency & Recovery to review Florida recovery efforts surrounding hurricanes and to ensure that we are prepared for future storms,” Renner said in a statement.
Renner also said he was forming a “Select Committee on Health Innovation to review issues relating to access and affordability.”
Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, a Naples attorney, has identified health care reform as her top priority for the 2024 legislative session.
Renner was required to do some minor shuffling to accommodate the special hurricane and health care committees, which will be chaired by Rep. Michael Grant, R-Port Charlotte, and Rep. Kaylee Tuck, R-Lake Placid, respectively.
However, much of his leadership team remains the same, including Speaker Pro Temp Chuck Clemmons, a Newberry Republican.
Rep. Tom Leek, R-Daytona Beach, remains Appropriations chair; Rep. Daniel Perez, R-Miami, remains Rules chair; and Rep. Stan McClain, R-Ocala, will continue to chair Ways & Means.

Rep. Tommy Gregory
Rep. Tommy Gregory, R-Lakewood Ranch, remains House Judiciary Chair.
Rep. Chuck Brannan, R-Mcclenny, a former sheriff’s investigator, will chair the Justice Appropriations Subcommittee.
Will Robinson, R-Bradenton, will chair the Civil Justice Subcommittee and Rep. Spence Roach, R-North Ft. Myers, will chair the Constitutional Rights, Rule of Law & Government Operations Subcommittee. Both men are lawyer/lawmakers.
Rep. Keith Truenow, R-Tavares, will chair the Criminal Justice Subcommittee.
