St. Thomas Law earns top brief award at HNBA national moot court competition

St. Thomas University College of Law students Nathalie Tirado, left, and Britney Arteaga received the First Place Overall Brief Award at the Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition hosted by the Hispanic National Bar Association in Las Vegas.

The St. Thomas University College of Law moot court team earned top honors for its written advocacy at the 31st Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition hosted by the Hispanic National Bar Association in Las Vegas.

Team members Britney Arteaga and Nathalie Tirado competed against students from 26 law schools across the country, advancing through the preliminary, quarterfinal, and semifinal rounds.

The St. Thomas team received the First Place Overall Brief Award and finished fourth overall in the national competition.

The team was coached by student Delaney Nix and alumni coach Naor Rom, with faculty advisor Armando Hernandez. Participants also received scholarship awards in recognition of their performance.

Following the competition, the St. Thomas moot court program moved to No. 23 in the national rankings, according to Arteaga.
