Stone becomes president of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers

Mitch StoneJacksonville’s Mitch Stone has been installed as president of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Stone, who has practiced criminal defense in Northeast Florida for 31 years, has served in all executive positions of the organization.  The June 11 ZOOM installation of officers was the first in FACDL’s 33-year history.

Stone will lead the 1,600-plus member organization of Florida lawyers who represent clients in criminal courts throughout the state. FACDL is the voice of an inclusive criminal defense community, and works to improve the criminal justice system at the judicial, legislative, and executive levels and to insure the integrity and independence of the criminal defense lawyer. FACDL was founded to promote the proper administration of criminal justice and to foster, maintain, and encourage the independence and expertise of the criminal defense lawyer.  There are 29 local chapters throughout the state.

Stone, a Florida Bar Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer, has served as editor of The Defender, the quarterly magazine of FACDL, and has been in charge of statewide continuing legal education presentations. Stone graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1988, and from the University of Vermont in 1985 with a degree in political science.
