Tax Section names Michael D. Minton Tax Attorney of the Year

Michael D. Minton will be honored by the Tax Section as the 2023 – 2024 Gerald T. Hart Outstanding Tax Attorney of the Year at the section’s meeting in Orlando September 30.

The Dean Mead shareholder is the first resident from the Treasure Coast of Florida to receive this award.

The Tax Section annually selects the professional who has made major contributions to the advancement of the practice of tax law and who exemplifies the highest standards of competence and integrity.

“Michael was selected for this recognition because he exemplifies all that the Tax Section represents,” said Tax Section Chair Shawn Wolf. “He is a wealth of knowledge, a consummate professional and held in the highest regard by his peers, community, friends and family. It is my true pleasure to honor Michael with this award.”

Minton is a triple University of Florida graduate, awarded a Master of Laws in Taxation in 1982, a Juris Doctor in 1981, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Agriculture in 1979. Throughout his 40+ year career he has represented family enterprises with an emphasis on generationally owned agricultural businesses.

He served as a past chair of the UF College of Law Center of Association, Inc., Board of Trustees and Florida Alumni Tax Advisory Committee. An emeritus board member of the UF Foundation, Minton currently services on the board for Gator Boosters, Inc. For 30 years he has served as a board member of the Indian River State College Foundation, Inc., and currently serves on the board for Florida Tax Watch and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Water Resource Assessment Team of the Central Florida Water Initiative, and a past vice-chair of the Governing Board for the South Florida Water Management District. Minton was also instrumental in the launch of the University of Central Florida School of Medicine.
