The Florida Bar warns members about new fraudulent email impersonating the Bar
The Florida Bar is warning members about a new fraudulent email circulating that falsely appears to come from the Bar.
Bar officials say the message, which has been reported by several members, claims to be from the Bar’s Communications Department and references “official correspondence and documents.” The email instructs recipients to review attached materials and confirm receipt.
The message is not from The Florida Bar and appears to be part of a phishing scam.
A sample version submitted by a member reads in part:
“This message is being sent on behalf of The Florida Bar Communications Department regarding official correspondence and documents [associated with the firm].
For your immediate awareness: a copy is attached to this email. Please review these at your earliest convenience.
For formal proceedings: the same has been sent by physical shipment. A shipping label is included in the package to facilitate return. Kindly confirm receipt of this email.”
These messages are designed to trick recipients into clicking malicious links or downloading harmful files. If you receive such an email, do not click any links or download any attachments. Instead, delete the email immediately.
The Florida Bar urges all members to remain vigilant and cautious when handling unexpected emails requesting personal information or document signatures. Always verify the sender’s identity before taking any action.
