Center for Professionalism logoThe latest professionalism newsletter, some fresh Pro Tips professionalism videos, and the latest edition of the Never Contemplated podcast are among the recent offerings from the Bar’s Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism.

The center, working with the Standing Committee on Professionalism and the Student Education and Admission to the Bar Committee, offers a variety of resources to help Bar members enhance and sustain their professional standards.

The most recent issue of The Professional, the center’s newsletter, went online in mid-November. It focuses on the importance of diversity with several related columns including one by Committee on Professionalism Chair Ita Neymotin. Other articles cover mentorship, working from home during the pandemic, information for lawyers about the Bar’s grievance system, and a column by Orlando attorney Larry Smith on advancing professionalism with diversity and inclusion.

The latest two issues of the center’s Never Contemplated podcast have also gone online. The October edition features a discussion between host Judge Hetal Desai and Judge Andrea Wolfson on the importance of civility, congeniality, and community in the legal profession.

The November show has Desai and Judge Nina Ashenafi Richardson talking about Richardson being a first-generation immigrant and her path to the bench.

The podcast also has episodes featuring Judge Patricia Seitz, first female Bar president, and Marcia Morales-Howard, our most recent William Hoeveler Judicial Professionalism Award winner.

The podcasts can be found on our Professionalism Resources page and on major podcast platforms, including Stitcher.

The podcasts are approved for 1 hour of general CLE credit, 0.5 hours of bias elimination credit, and 0.5 hours of professionalism credit.

There are new additions to the center’s rapidly growing #ProTips Tuesday series, which feature short videos discussing various professionalism issues. Among the latest inclusions:

  • Bar President Dori Foster-Morales on responding (or pausing before responding) to emotional phone calls from clients and other lawyers.
  • Melanie Griffin on always showing grace to others.
  • Henry Paul on professionally responding to negative online reviews.
  • Judge Jessica Costello on the “Commerce of Integrity.”
  • Center Director Rebecca Bandy on professional expectations as contained in the Oath of Admission to The Florida Bar and the Bar’s Professionalism Creed.

The Center for Professionalism has a variety of resources to help lawyers, from The Professionalism Handbook to a variety of free CLE courses. The center can also be found on social media at #FLBarProfessionalism.

Aside from those activities, the center has recently produced four free CLEs — three mental health and wellness CLEs and one on bridging the gender pay gap.
