Third DCA to honor Barkdull
T hird DCA to honor BarkdullThe Third District Court of Appeal will celebrate the life of the late Judge Thomas H. Barkdull, Jr., on Friday, September 24, at 3 p.m. at the Third District Court, located at 2001 S.W. 117 Avenue in Miami.
The speakers for the event will include Judge Alan R. Schwartz, Judge Gerald B. Cope, Jr., Bob Butterworth, and Dexter Douglass.
Judge Barkdull served longer than any other appellate judge in Florida. In April 2000, the Florida Legislature recognized his many accomplishments by designating the courthouse in which the Third District sits as the Thomas H. Barkdull, Jr., District Courthouse. Judge Barkdull was instrumental in securing the property on which the courthouse was built and directing the construction of the building. On Judge Barkdull’s 30th anniversary on the court in 1991, the street name at the intersection of Southwest 117th Avenue, where the Third District courthouse is located, was designated “Barkdull Way.”
Everyone is invited to share this occasion.
