The University of Miami School of Law’s Yvette Ostolaza Mock Trial Team secured a victory at the Region 6 National Trial Competition (NTC), earning a spot at the national finals in Dallas later this month.

The team’s championship performance places them among the top student advocates in the country, as they advance to compete against approximately 30 of the nation’s best trial teams.

The regional competition — widely regarded as one of the most competitive in the country — featured 22 teams from law schools across the Southeast. Representing Miami Law, third-year students Emilia Waddington, Jade Armstrong, and Morgan Hirsch, ultimately advanced as one of only two teams from the region to reach the national stage.

On their path to victory, the Miami Law team defeated a slate of opponents, including teams from University of Florida, Barry University, the University of Georgia, Florida State University, and Emory University.

The team is coached by criminal defense attorneys and adjunct faculty members Prya Murad and Mason Kerns.

Established in 1975, the National Trial Competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious law school advocacy competitions in the United States. Administered by the Texas Young Lawyers Association and co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers, the NTC draws more than 150 law schools and over 1,000 law students annually.
