Vickaryous honored for community leadership
“SERENDIPITOUS AND HUMBLING” is the way Board of Governors member Jim Vickaryous of Lake Mary described the feeling when he and his wife, Jen Ferguson, recently received the Brevard Bar Foundation’s Community Leader of the Year Award. “Jen encouraged me to be more giving to our community,” Vickaryous said. “A cancelled bar meeting led me to spend an afternoon at a homeless mission, leading me to a lifetime of helping those who seek help there.” Vickaryous said the call to leadership has since led him to many other rewarding community organizations and taught him that life is more than being a great lawyer for your clients. “My friend and one of the founders of the Brevard Bar Foundation, Michael Kahn, says that the sole reason for the foundation is ‘lawyers doing pure good,’” he said. “I could not agree more.” None of money raised by the Brevard Bar Foundation is spent on overhead expenses. Former Board of Governors member John Alpizar of Palm Bay provided the keynote address at the event and told those assembled that the foundation’s endowment is now self sustaining to fund annual charitable gifts.
