#YLDMoneyTalk SeriesThe Bar’s Young Lawyers Division will host the next webinar in the #YLDMoneyTalk series on April 6 titled, “Shift Your Money Mindset.”

The webinar, hosted by Bar member and Western Michigan University law professor Joseline Jean-Louis Hardrick, educates YLD members on how to make money work for them. Additionally, it covers techniques to find happiness in their career, personal finances, and life.

The YLD regularly hosts free webinars on topics of interest to young lawyers as a benefit to its members. The #YLDMoneyTalk series has covered a wide variety of financial topics from financial planning and wellness to student loan tips.

“Many of us young lawyers leave law school overwhelmed by the amount of debt we’ve accumulated to become a lawyer,” said YLD board member Giovanni P. Giarratana. “The worry of that debt often influences critical career decisions, investing for retirement, and some of life’s biggest moments like buying a home and starting a family. The #YLDMoneyTalk webinar series is designed to empower young lawyers with practical knowledge and takeaways regarding financial planning and wellness. With these strategies the hope is that young lawyers will feel less constrained by their debt and find more freedom to seek their desired career paths and personal goals.”

Hardrick shares her story from growing up in poverty and owing thousands in student loans to starting a nonprofit, creating a publishing company, and supporting a family. Throughout her journey, Hardrick has paid down all her debt, and taken pay cuts to gain more flexibility, all while building a life she loves.

In addition to being a member of the Federal Judicial Nominating Conference for the Middle District of Florida, Hardrick is the founder and president of Diversity Access Pipeline, doing business as Journey to Esquire, which runs a scholarship and leadership program, podcast, and blog.

Hardrick was an exam reader for the Florida Board of Bar Examiners and a Guardian ad Litem for the Sixth Judicial Circuit. She also served as a board member for Solita’s House, an organization offering first-time homebuyer education classes.

The webinar is scheduled from 12-1 p.m. on April 6 and interested YLD members can pre-register.
