Bars join together for special luncheon
The Orange County Bar Association and Paul C. Perkins Bar Association have a long tradition of joining together during Black History Month for a member luncheon! This year’s event featured Rep. Bobby Dubose who currently serves as Democratic Pro Tempore in the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 94th District. Rep. Dubose spoke about his sponsoring of House Bill 631, which extends an apology to the “Groveland Four” (Charles Greenlee, Walter Irvin, Samuel Shepherd and Ernest Thomas). This bill acknowledges that they were the victims of “gross injustices,” and that their “abhorrent treatment” by the criminal justice system was a shameful chapter in Florida history. A historical documentary, “The Groveland Four,” will debut in June. The Jones High School Chorus also performed at the luncheon.
