The Collier County Bar Association welcomed a special guest to its recent Law Week Luncheon: President James Madison, portrayed by professional historical interpreter Bryan Austin of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Board of Governors member Laird Lile of Naples arranged for the nation’s fourth president to attend the luncheon and provide remarks on the Law Week theme, “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society.”

Lile, a longtime supporter of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and its extensive educational program had seen Austin portray President Madison in the past and knew he would provide a compelling, relevant, and historically accurate accounting of the Constitution’s important freedoms.

While President Madison was in Naples, Lile arranged for him to speak to Graduation Celebration for Class IV of the Florida Fellows Institute of The American College of Trust and Estates Counsel and to a group of third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at a local elementary school who were surprised by his visit dovetailed with the school’s recent “time travel” activities.
