The Florida Bar

Cooking for a Cause

August 20, 2020

Creative engagement for members during the COVID-19 challenge has no boundaries. Members of the Greater Orlando Asian American Bar Association took a tour of the Philippines Aug. 19 with a virtual fusion night via Zoom. Chef Michael Collantes of Taglish gave a live food demo. Members picked up their Kamayan Kit – American Filipino barbecue skewers, 15-hour lechon pork belly, abodo chicken, street corn, panchit bihon noodles, atchara pickled papaya slaw and mango calamansi – before the event. All was appropriately served on a banana leaf. The soulful food and conversation had a purpose. A portion of the money raised went to provide a meal to the COVID-unit nurses at AdventHealth Orlando. For the nightcap, The Filipino Student Association presented the FSA University of Central Florida Dance Troupe showcasing Filipino folk dance. GrayRobinson, P.A., Orlando sponsored the culturally diverse event.
