Legendary Black Woman Lawyer Honored
On Feb. 17, The Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association hosted a virtual celebration with the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida and the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association honoring the life and legacy of a leader, pioneer and trailblazer, Gwendolyn Sawyer Cherry. Cherry was the first Black woman to attend the University of Miami Law School; the first Black woman to practice law in Miami-Dade County; and the first Black woman to serve as a legislator in the Florida House of Representatives.
Also, for each day of February, the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association had one member give a Black History fact. The videos are on the bar association’s Facebook page, Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association, and Instagram, WDFJBA.
