March 24, 2021

Florida Association for Women Lawyers had an amazing Lobby Days 2021! On day one, Justice Grosshans, Judge McKinney and Senator Berman participated in an engaging panel discussion on Florida’s Age of Women Leaders.  Justice Jorge Labarga provided a virtual tour of the Florida Supreme Court and offered up his special comedy along the way. The group reports productive virtual meetings with  state legislators to push forward FAWL priorities. Following a hard days work, FAWL members enjoyed some legislative libations during a virtual happy hour where they learned how to make three cocktails inspired by strong women advocates. On day two additional virtual legislative visits were made by FAWL members. A measure that would require Florida’s county courthouses to provide clean, private, and secure lactation rooms also started moving in the Senate. With little discussion and no debate, the Senate Government Oversight & Accountability Committee voted 6-0 on March 24 to approve SB 196 by Sen. Lori Berman, D-Boynton Beach. Many FAWL members lobbied the committee members virtually to help secure the vote.
